What to Do When You Have Electrical Problems

Strange smells might be normal if your device is new, but if there is a smell coming from your outlet, this could be an issue. Turn off all of the devices connected to it and unplug them as soon as you’ve identified where the smell is coming from. Once you’re certain you’ve identified and unplugged everything you can, call us so that we can investigate the issue.

If your outlets are persistently hot, this might indicate electrical problems. If it is uncomfortable to hold your hand to the outlet or switch plate, unplug whatever it was powering before contacting us, and avoid plugging anything else into it until we have a chance to investigate the cause of the overheating.

Sparking can be found in a variety of places and is caused by a variety of electrical problems. But the bottom line is the same no matter where you find the sparking: it’s bad news and needs professional attention. If the sparking is coming from an appliance, it might be as simple as unplugging it and calling a repairperson. However, if an outlet is sparking, or your breaker or fuse boxes, do your best not to strain the system and immediately call us.

Whatever electrical problems you are experiencing, we at Quality Electrical Contractors are dedicated to serving you with honesty and integrity.
